First commit on the local Gitea server, made after moving the tree off the
Windows machine. Build outputs, node_modules and the AI models stay out
(see .gitignore); everything the installer build needs is tracked.

RapidAPI Complete Study Bible Integration - Summary

✅ What Was Done

I've integrated the RapidAPI Complete Study Bible API into your Bible app's popup system. Here's what was added:

1. New Integration Module (rapidapi-study-bible.js)

  • Created a new API integration module similar to your Accordance integration
  • Handles API key configuration via localStorage
  • Automatically tries multiple endpoint patterns
  • Parses API responses into your popup format
  • Includes error handling and fallback mechanisms

2. App Integration (app.js)

  • Added RapidAPI import and integration
  • Enhanced word info fetching to include RapidAPI data
  • Updated popup rendering to display RapidAPI data in a "Complete Study Bible" section
  • Added test function: window.testRapidAPIIntegration()

3. Setup Documentation (RAPIDAPI_SETUP.md)

  • Complete setup guide
  • Configuration instructions
  • Troubleshooting tips
  • API response format examples

🎯 How It Works

The integration works just like your Accordance integration:

  1. Word Click → User clicks on a word
  2. Base Data → Gets base word info (Greek/Hebrew from local database)
  3. RapidAPI Enhancement → Queries RapidAPI for additional data
  4. Popup Display → Shows all data in popup with "Complete Study Bible" section

🚀 Quick Start

Step 1: Get Your API Key

  1. Go to https://rapidapi.com/teachjesusapp/api/complete-study-bible
  2. Subscribe to the API (free tier available)
  3. Copy your API key

Step 2: Configure

Open browser console (F12) and run:

localStorage.setItem('rapidapi.key', 'YOUR_API_KEY_HERE');
localStorage.setItem('rapidapi.host', 'complete-study-bible.p.rapidapi.com');

Step 3: Test

// Test the integration
await window.testRapidAPIIntegration('love');

📋 What You Need to Do

IMPORTANT: The integration is ready, but you need to:

  1. Test the API endpoints in the RapidAPI playground to see what data is available
  2. Update the endpoint structure in rapidapi-study-bible.js if needed (line ~30)
  3. Update the response parser in rapidapi-study-bible.js (function parseRapidAPIResponse) to match your API's actual response format

The integration tries common endpoint patterns automatically, but you may need to adjust based on what the API actually provides.

🔍 Testing the API

Before configuring, test the API in the RapidAPI playground:

Look for:

  • What endpoints are available
  • What the response format looks like
  • What data fields are returned

Then update parseRapidAPIResponse function to extract the right fields.

📊 Expected Popup Structure

Your popups will now show:

  • Greek/Hebrew (from local database)
  • Complete Study Bible (from RapidAPI) - NEW!
    • Strong's numbers
    • Definitions
    • Commentaries
    • Cross-references
    • Morphology
  • Greek WordNet (from Accordance, if configured)

🛠️ Customization

Change API Host

localStorage.setItem('rapidapi.host', 'your-custom-host.com');

Disable Integration

Just don't set the API key - the integration will gracefully skip if no key is found.

Customize Popup Display

Edit the rapidAPISection HTML in app.js around line 11098-11158.

⚠️ Important Notes

  1. API Key Security: Never commit API keys to version control
  2. Rate Limits: Monitor your API usage to avoid exceeding limits
  3. CORS: If you get CORS errors, you may need to proxy requests through your server
  4. Response Format: The parser may need adjustment based on actual API responses

🐛 Troubleshooting

No data showing?

  • Check browser console for errors
  • Verify API key is set: localStorage.getItem('rapidapi.key')
  • Test API directly in RapidAPI playground
  • Check network tab to see if requests are being made

Wrong data format?

  • Update parseRapidAPIResponse function to match your API's response structure
  • Check the actual API response in RapidAPI playground

CORS errors?

  • Consider making API calls through server.js instead of directly from browser
  • Add CORS headers or use a proxy

📚 Files Modified

  1. rapidapi-study-bible.js - New file (API integration module)
  2. app.js - Modified (added RapidAPI integration and popup rendering)
  3. RAPIDAPI_SETUP.md - New file (setup guide)
  4. RAPIDAPI_INTEGRATION_SUMMARY.md - This file

🎉 Next Steps

  1. Test the API endpoints in RapidAPI playground
  2. Configure your API key
  3. Test the integration with window.testRapidAPIIntegration()
  4. Adjust the parser if needed based on actual API responses
  5. Customize the popup display as desired

The integration is ready to use once you configure your API key and verify the endpoint structure matches what the API actually provides!
