An "Import data" option in the user (avatar) menu that brings a spreadsheet into Boards, either as a new board or into an existing one.

Sources

  • Excel (.xlsx): parsed on the server.
  • Apple Numbers (.numbers): Numbers files are a zipped binary format. Either find a dependable parser, or guide people to export from Numbers to Excel or CSV first.
  • Google Sheets: pick a sheet with the Google Picker, then read it with the Sheets API. Shares its Google setup with #6.

Flow

  1. Choose the file or sheet, and the tab if there's more than one.
  2. Preview the first rows, and map each spreadsheet column to a Boards column: a new column of a chosen type, or an existing one.
  3. Import, with a summary of how many rows came in and anything that couldn't be converted.

Build on: the per-board CSV import already handles column matching and turns text into statuses, people, dates and numbers. Reuse that rather than writing a second converter.
